Brent Brekke


BrekkeBrent Brekke has brought his defensive knowledge to the Miami blue line since the 2008-09 campaign.  He serves as the RedHawks' associate head coach.  Brekke who now has 16 years of collegiate coaching experience under his belt, came to Miami in the summer of 2008 after spending the previous nine seasons as an assistant coach at Cornell University of the ECAC.  In Addition to working with the defense, Brekke is also the program's co-recruiting coordinator and handles all aspects of game scheduling for the RedHawks.

Since coming to Miami, Brekke has turned the RedHawks into one of the top defenses in the country annually.  Miami ranked in the top 10 in the NCAA defensively in each of Brekke's first five seasons, ranking in the top four on four occasions.  Along with that, he has been instrumental in coaching Miami's penalty kill unit, which has ranked in the top 10 nationally five times in Brekke's tenure.





Nick Petraglia


PetragliaNick Petraglia is no stranger to Miami hockey, as the former RedHawk player is in his 12th season as a member of Miami's coaching staff.  As an assistant coach, he helps with on-ice instruction in all facets of the game and works extensively with the RedHawk goaltenders while also handling many recruiting responsibilities.  He also serves as co-recruiting coordinator, is the team's academic liaison, and works with the program's alumni board.  

During the offseason, Petraglia spends several weeks coaching Miami's hockey school and has coached both the Select 14 and Select 16 festivals for USA Hockey over the past several years. For the past five summers, Petraglia was selected to coach at the Warren Strelow National Team Camp with USA Hockey, which included the nation's top goaltenders eligible for international play. He has also worked closely with Washington Capitals (NHL) goalie coach Mitch Korn since 2001.



Steve Cady


CadyWhether he is coaching or simply around the rink, Coach Cady returns to Miami Hockey School for another great summer. Steve is the father of Miami Hockey guiding the team from the club level to varsity hockey. Steve was the Miami University’s Head Hockey Coach from 1976-85. Steve has worked with the Colorado Avalanche as their skating coach and also has been on NCAA hockey committees. 






Tommy Hill


Tommy  Hill

After serving a year on the staff of Miami Hockey as a volunteer coach, Tommy Hill was named the RedHawks’ Director of Hockey Operations on August 1, 2013.  As Miami's volunteer assistant coach during the 2012-13 season, Hill worked with players on the ice, assisting in skill development and contributing to in-game strategy. He also broke down film in his first year at Miami while helping prepare scouting reports -- something he'll continue to do in his new role. Hill coordinated the Junior RedHawks program and other community service outreach, as well, in 2012-13.

Hill came to Miami after completing a four-year hockey career at former CCHA rival Ferris State from 2008-12. As a senior he served as co-captain and led the Bulldogs to their first ever Frozen Four and a berth in the national championship game. He also helped guide FSU to the program's second CCHA regular-season title in 2011-12.


Justin Roethlingshoefer



Justin  RoethlingshoeferJustin Roethlingshoefer joined the RedHawks' Hockey staff in 2014 as a strength and conditioning coach managing all aspects of the RedHawks' strength and conditioning, nutrition, and supplementation programs.

Roethlingshoefer is no stranger to the ice as he spent four years as a goaltender at Westfield State University and played four years of Canadian Jr. A hockey before that.  He served as team captain and MVP of the Cornwall Colts in 2009 while also winning the Canadian Junior Scholastic and Ability Player of the Year award.  He also spent time with the Springfield Falcons as a practice goalie. 




Jason Szynkowski


SzynkowskiJason is an assistant coach and teaches at St. Johns Jesuit in Toledo OH. Before St. Johns, Jason played both varsity and club hockey for Miami University where he won a club national championship and was a repeat ACHA All-American. During this time, Jason earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Middle Childhood Education. In addition, Jason coached two seasons of club hockey for the RedHawks while pursuing a Master's degree in Sports History/Administration as a graduate assistant. A seasoned speaker for USA Hockey Coaches clinics, Jason's hockey experience also extends to summer hockey schools where, for over a decade, he continues to travel the Midwest working Miami's School, Defensemen Specialty Camps, and Checking/Scoring Specialty Camps as both coach and director.



Dan Daikawa


DaikawaDan, a Miami alumnus, comes to Miami Hockey School after an 11 year professional career in Japan. Daikawa has a wealth of international playing experience taking part in 2 Olympics and 5 world championships while playing with the Japanese National Team. Dan is now the Head Coach and GM of the Jamestown Ironmen of the NAHL.








Kevin Ackley


AckleyKevin Ackley comes to Miami Hockey School after a career at DI St. Lawrence University from 2001-2006. At SLU, Ackley was a solid contributor as a goaltender despite a number of critical injuries. Prior to SLU, Kevin played two years in the USHL in Fargo, ND and Chicago, IL. Kevin received his Master’s Degree in Education during his final year of eligibility at SLU. Kevin is the Sr. Director of Goggin Ice Center and the Director of Miami Hockey School.







Matt Cady


MattCadyMatt is a Miami Hockey Alumni graduating in 2004 with a degree in strength and conditioning. Before Matt returned to Miami he was volunteer assistant hockey coach at the University of Denver. Matt worked with Miami’s Golf, Hockey, and Synchronized Skating teams as the strength and conditioning coach. Matt also provided administrative support, scouting reports, and coordinates the hockey teams in game video.  Cady currently oversees strength and conditioning programs for military personnel based in Florida.





Mike Norton


NortonMike has an extensive playing and coaching background at the Division I college level, in addition to his experience as a junior player for St. Michael’s in Toronto from 1976-78. After leaving St. Mike’s, Norton played one season of Division I hockey for former CCHA member St. Louis University in 1978-79 before transferring to Miami University, where he completed his career in 1982. Taking over Miami’s club program the following season as coach, he led the Redskins (now RedHawks) to a 30-1 record and second-place finish at the Club Hockey Nationals in 1984. Following a year at Division III Wisconsin-River Falls, Norton returned to Oxford as an assistant coach for Miami’s varsity team from 1985-91. Mike is also a USA Hockey coaching education instructor during the off season along with coaching in multiple USA Hockey camps.  For the past 22 years, Mike was Associate Athletic Director and Hockey Coach at Culver Academy.  Mike is currently the Director for Hockey at Goggin Ice Center.




Scott Hicks

Scott Hicks returns as the head coach of Miami’s Division I ACHA Women’s Hockey Team.  After guiding the team to a National Championship in 2013-2014, Hicks was at the helm again in 2014-2015 when the team returned to the National Championship game.  Hicks has also served on the staff for the women’s hockey team at the World University Games in 2015.




Kaitlyn Johnson

 

Kaitlyn Johnson joined the Goggin Ice Center staff in 2015 as an Intern for Programming after completing her collegiate playing career at Marion University in Wisconsin. Johnson serves as the associate head coach for Miami’s Division I ACHA Women’s Hockey Team and has served on the staffs of multiple camps including Miami Hockey School.








Mark Frankenfeld


FrankieMark Frankenfeld is in his fifth full year as commissioner of the North American Hockey League and his 14th overall. As commissioner, his responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations and all business aspects of the league, including but not limited to expansion, marketing initiatives, rules & regulations and player development. Behind the bench in the NAHL, Frankenfeld was the head coach of the Dayton Gems during the 2003-04 season and spent four seasons as assistant coach and assistant general manager for the Texas Tornado from 1999-03. He was also an assistant coach with the Cleveland Jr. Barons for one season. Prior to working in the NAHL, Frankenfeld gained valuable experience in the collegiate ranks, spending four years as an assistant coach with Miami University and one as an assistant with Buffalo State University (SUNYAC). Frankenfeld has also coached at the high school and Midget AAA levels, as well as at USA Hockey Select Festivals, giving him more than 20 years of coaching experience.


Justin Camuto


Justin Camuto returns to Miami Hockey School as goalie coach.  He currently works at the Goggin Ice Center assisting with the Jr. Redhawks and BAD Hockey programs along with being the Head Coach for the Division II ACHA Men's Club Ice Hockey team.  During the summers, Justin splits time between Miami Hockey School and working camps for Washington Capitals goalie coach Mitch Korn.  Camuto played goalie for the ACHA team at John Carroll University.
